Introducing Angel Aligners for Teens
The Angel Aligner system is a clear aligner orthodontic treatment plan that uses lightweight and removable aligners to help straighten the teeth. The teen system is specifically designed for growing mouths, allowing us to accommodate teeth as they emerge. This can allow us to start treatment earlier and prevent alignment issues before they ever arise. The clear and removable system also makes the treatment more flexible.
We start with scans and impressions of the teeth, and these are used to design the treatment plan. Each aligner in the series moves the teeth a little bit closer to perfect alignment. Teens need to wear their aligners for around 20-22 hours per day, changing them every 10-14 days according to their treatment plan. At the end of treatment, they can switch to wearing a retainer at night time to keep their teeth in perfect alignment.
Angel Aligners Vs Fixed Braces
To straighten teeth with fixed braces, we use brackets fixed to the teeth with wires joining them together. With Angel Aligners, we can use a series of clear aligners for teens that are made of a lightweight but very strong plastic. Each aligner puts pressure on the teeth to move them a small amount, and with each aligner change, the teeth become closer and closer to perfect alignment. With Angel Aligners for teens, there is greater flexibility to account for growing mouths.
The main is that Angel Aligners are removable, which makes the treatment plan much more flexible. Teens can remove their aligners to eat, so they don’t have to skip their favourite foods. They can also remove them to brush their teeth, so they don’t have to change their oral care schedule. And since adjustments take place at home, they’ll spend less time in the dentist’s chair, which is great for busy teen schedules.
Is my teen a good candidate for Angel Aligners?
Angel Aligners are suitable for most young patients, usually starting around the age of 11 or 12. Your dentist will start to monitor your child’s teeth during the mixed dentition stage, when they have both adult teeth and baby teeth. This can help to spot potential issues and take action before more extensive treatment is required. The most important thing to remember with removable Angel Aligners is that they need to be worn for a minimum of 20-22 hours per day. Failure to wear the aligners for long enough can lead to a more painful treatment, and the plan could fail entirely. Teens who are forgetful or likely to lose their aligners might find they are better suited to a fixed braces plan.

If you’re already a patient with us, your dentist will monitor your child’s teeth as they are growing and let you know if orthodontics are required. If you would like to explore private orthodontics with us, book an appointment with our team.
We’ll take impressions of the teeth along with scans to help plan the treatment. These are used to create the series of aligners that are worn throughout treatment. The aligners are created in the Angel Aligner lab and then sent to the practice.
We’ll teach your teen how to insert and remove their aligners, and how to keep them clean. They will then start treatment at home, wearing their aligners for 20-22 hours per day. They will still visit for periodic checkups to ensure everything is progressing as it should.
When your teen reaches the end of their treatment plan, they will return to the practice for a final checkup and to get their night time retainer. The retainer will help to keep their teeth in the correct position.

This all depends on the patient and their alignment issues. Treatment plans can take as little as 6 months, with most lasting around 18 months for mild cases and up to 2 years for more severe cases.
For the teen plan, we would typically think about starting treatment around 11 or 12, but some children don’t start until their late teens. We can help you to decide when it is the right time to start treatment.
While there are plenty of clear aligner systems available, only Angel Aligner uses the 7+3 dual material approach. This method uses a flexible aligner for 7 days to help with gentle and continuous movement, followed by a firm aligner for 3 days which stabilises the movement.
