What are Invisalign clear aligners?

Invisalign is a unique orthodontic treatment that uses lightweight, clear plastic aligners to gradually straighten your teeth. Treatment starts with a scan of your mouth to determine the current position of each tooth. We can then map the optimum position and the path required to get there. This information is then used to create your case of aligners.

Starting with your first aligner set, you'll wear this for 20-22 hours per day for 10-14 days. The aligners apply gentle pressure to your teeth to move them into the correct position. When you're ready, you'll move to the next aligner in your case. This continues until you have reached the final aligner set in your case. At this point, your teeth will be in the correct position and you can switch to wearing a retainer at night time.

Invisalign Vs Fixed Braces

Before Invisalign clear aligners, the only option for straightening teeth was to wear traditional braces with fixed brackets and wires. Invisalign gives you flexibility over your treatment plan as you can remove your lightweight plastic aligners throughout the day. You would typically remove your aligners to eat, drink (anything other than clear liquids) and brush your teeth.

This unique treatment plan allows you to straighten your teeth without changing your lifestyle. You can still eat your favourite foods, carry on with your hobbies, and keep your orthodontic treatment quiet. The nearly invisible aligners aren't obvious to those around you. And since you don't have to visit the dentist for every adjustment, the treatment plan is less likely to interfere with your schedule.

Is Invisalign right for me?

Invisalign is suitable for patients of all ages and with all levels of misalignment. There aren't many cases that Invisalign can't help with. If you have overcrowding, crooked teeth, gaps in your smile, overbite, underbite or crossbite, Invisalign could help you to achieve a straighter smile. Remember that orthodontics is about more than just appearance. A straighter and properly aligned smile will also be much easier to care for.

No! There is no upper age limit for Invisalign, so you can achieve a beautiful straight smile later in life. We will need to check that your oral health is in good shape before you can start treatment, but age is rarely a reason that patients cannot use the Invisalign system.

No, without a retainer to keep your teeth in place, they will naturally move out of alignment again. This is because your teeth want to naturally fall into the easiest possible alignment.

No, Invisalign is not available on the NHS, you can only access this treatment as a private patient. However, we offer payment plans that will allow you to spread the cost of your treatment.
