Dental Implants explained

Dental implants offer a flexible and versatile restoration option that replaces many popular cosmetic and restorative treatments. Choose from single dental implant to replace one missing tooth, or multiple dental implants that may support a bridge, partial denture or full denture. Our renowned dental practice offers the widest possible range of dental implant treatment options.

The dental implant procedure

This procedure takes place over multiple visits, and the timeline will vary for each patient. We need to give the implant and restoration time to heal between each stage in the process, and healing times vary depending for each individual. The procedure typically takes between 3-6 months to complete, but additional treatments like bone grafting can extend the treatment time.

Single Vs Multiple Implants

Choosing between single and multiple dental implants will all depend on the type of restoration you require. A single dental implant is a great choice for replacing one missing tooth. This will help to protect your remaining teeth by providing support to the surrounding teeth and ensuring you bite is not impacted by missing teeth.

Multiple dental implants are commonly used for more complex restorations where multiple teeth are missing. For example, you might use two dental implants to support two crowns with a bridge between. This will allow you to replace multiple teeth in a row. And in cases where you are hoping to replace a full arch denture, we can place 4-6 dental implants to support a fixed or removable denture.

What to expect from your treatment journey

We want you to feel empowered and informed every step of the way. Understand what to expect during your treatment with this simple guide. Your exact treatment plan might change, but this will be explained during your consultation.

The first step on your dental implant treatment journey is to book a consultation with Dr Chetan Mathias. This is your opportunity to ask questions and learn more about the treatment plan.

If you decide to go ahead with dental implant treatment, we'll talk you through the finance options available. You can pay upfront for treatment, or you can spread the cost with an affordable monthly payment plan.

The first step in the treatment is to place the implant(s) and leave this to heal. The implant will fuse with the bone and create a strong foundation for a restoration.

The abutment sits above the gum line and connects the implant to the restoration. We will contour the gum around this to create an incredibly natural finish.

The final step is to place your crown, bridge or denture. At this stage, your restoration is complete and you'll be able to smile, speak and eat with complete confidence again.

Frequently Asked Questions

It’s common to have lots of questions about your treatment. We’ve answered some of the most popular questions below.

The main disadvantages of dental implants are the cost of treatment and the time it takes to complete the procedure. However, many patients believe it is worthwhile due to the lifetime value of permanently replacing missing teeth.

There is no right age for dental implants. We treat patients young and old who want to enjoy more freedom and flexibility in their restoration choice. If you have missing teeth and are looking for a permanent restoration, this could be an ideal treatment for you.

When considering the cost of dental implants versus other treatment options, you need to consider the lifetime value of this treatment. This is also a permanent restoration, while other treatments may need to be replaced or repaired over the years. The dental implant should last a lifetime and provide a solid anchor for your restoration for years to come.
