Orthodontic treatment explained
Traditional fixed braces offer a fast and reliable way to straighten your teeth. This method uses small brackets made from metal or porcelain ceramic that attach directly to the teeth. A special wire runs through the brackets and applies targeted pressure to the teeth to help move them into the correct position.
You'll visit your dentist throughout treatment for adjustments. At the end of the treatment, we remove the braces and then we recommend a hygienist visit and teeth whitening to help your teeth look perfect.
- Non-removable option
- Results in as little as 6 months
- Dentist-supervised treatment
- Choose from metal or porcelain
Porcelain or Metal braces
Before starting treatment, you will need to decide between traditional fixed braces, or more discreet porcelain braces. There is no difference in the treatment plan, the only difference is the cost. Metal braces are the cheapest option, and a great choice if you aren't self-conscious about wearing these braces for the duration of treatment. Porcelain braces with clear wires are designed to be more discreet.
Fixed Braces Vs Invisalign
Another popular choice for straightening teeth is Invisalign. This treatment uses lightweight, removable and clear plastic aligners, similar to a retainer. The main difference between traditional braces and Invisalign is that you can remove your Invisalign braces. Invisalign is also very discreet, so it's perfect if you don't want people to know you're having treatment. However, if you are forgetful, you might want to choose traditional fixed orthodontics, as there is less risk of losing your aligners or forgetting to wear them.
Meet the team
Our team is what sets us apart. Throughout your treatment, you’ll be supported by our caring and passionate team. We live and breathe dentistry, ensuring that we can offer the highest possible standards of care for our patients.
What to expect from your treatment journey
We want you to feel empowered and informed every step of the way. Understand what to expect during your treatment with this simple guide. Your exact treatment plan might change, but this will be explained during your consultation.
The first step in your journey to straighter teeth is to book a consultation with our team. This is your chance to learn more about the treatment plan and ask questions about how it will impact your life. We'll look at your teeth and gums to see if you are a good candidate for this treatment.
We start by attaching small brackets to each tooth and then running a wire between these brackets. We can then adjust the wire so that it applies tension to your teeth and helps to move them into position. You will need to visit the dentist throughout treatment for checkups and adjustments.
Once your teeth are in the correct alignment, we will remove the wires and brackets from your teeth. This is a good chance to enjoy a hygienist appointment and complete your treatment with a teeth whitening treatment to ensure your teeth look as healthy as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions
It’s common to have lots of questions about your treatment. We’ve answered some of the most popular questions below.
There is no ideal age for braces. Parents can think about getting braces for their children once they have all of adult teeth, and this is typically been the ages of 9 and 14. Adults can also think about braces at any point in life. Perhaps you had braces as a teenager, but your teeth have moved out of alignment since you stopped wearing your retainer. Or perhaps you've never had braces but your alignment issues have become more obvious with age. Whatever your reasons, we can help you to achieve a beautiful, straight smile at any age.
The final treatment time will all depend on the severity of your alignment issues. For minor imperfections, we could achieve results in as little as 6 months. For more extensive cases, you might have treatment for 18-24 months. The good news about fixed orthodontics is that you can't delay your treatment by forgetting to wear your aligners. This is a common problem with removable aligners, and this can make treatment last longer.
The current waiting list for NHS orthodontics is around 2 years, and this is longer in some parts of the country. The COVID-19 pandemic created a backlog of cases, and with fewer dentists offering NHS orthodontics, this means there simply aren't enough dentists to keep up with demand. Many children are ageing out of the waiting list, which is why private orthodontics is so popular. With private treatment, you won't need to join a waiting list, you'll have greater flexibility over the type of treatment you have, and you can also choose when to start.
